tommy_walker_i_have_a_hope.jpg  I Have A Hope  Tommy Walker
"I seem to have this thing for championing those artists who are underappreciated and Tommy Walker definitely fits the bill. To put it mildly he’s not nearly as well known as his contemporaries, ie. Chris Tomlin, even though his songs are performed the world over (mind you it’s partly Tommy’s own doing as detailed in this interview). I’ll admit that even I had little idea who he was until just this year, outside of the fact that I knew (and liked) the song “He Knows My Name” (aka “I Have A Maker”). That’s why I was so taken off guard, not to mention blown away, when I sat down to listen to this record…a seamless fusion of jazz, pop, gospel, and R&B and Tommy has an incredible knack for creating hooks (not to mention the Biblical and encouraging lyrics). Simply put I loved every single song on this record, and it spent more time in my CD player than any other this year. Plus I think I may be developing an additional “thing” for artists who could be described using the word soulful (as is also evident in my #2 choice). Don’t overlook this record!"

"I'm a huge fan of Carrie and I think this second album is even better than the first...and I loved the first. She's got it all, brains, beauty and a voice that is crazy awesome!"

demon_hunter.jpg  45 Days  Demon Hunter
Demon Hunter have long been at the forefront of the Christian-metal movement that took root over two decades ago - the brothers Clark, Ryan and Don, form the creative nucleus of DH, and they cut their teeth in bands like Focal Point, Training For Utopia and more; their credo needs no help from me. 45 Days is a three-disc package, featuring a killer live show filmed in Nashville, a full-length, touching documentary on how and why the band means so much to their fans, and the audio CD of the live show. Whether they're cranking the amps up past eleven or opening their hearts onstage - or both simultaneously - Demon Hunter remain the standard. Highly recommended.

downhere_ending_is_beginnin.jpg  Ending Is Beginning  Downhere
"Not only are these guys Canadian, but they've finally mastered their 'ideal' sound after 10 years together as a band! This album has the perfect mixture of Jason and Marc leading and each track on the record is different but still recognizably Downhere. If you were a fan of 'Wide Eyed and Mystified' (2006) or if you've heard songs you knew your whole life and were always like "Huh? That's Downhere?!", then you need to check this one out even if only to see what where they've come. Brilliant! If you ask me, one of the smartest things they did was finally apply their 'Queen' influence taking advantage of crazy harmonies, dramatic dynamics, and Marc's total "Freddie Mercury" voice. This album is a breakthrough in Downhere's career and I'll never get sick of it."
