Loud = happy. Obviously!
When I was young, we’d have sleepovers in the basement. Of course, we didn’t sleep!
Mom would come down the stairs and softly say, “Girls, keep it down.”
And we’d whisper, “Shhhh... hushhh...”
For about thirty seconds.
Then, slowly, the volume would ramp back up until we were laughing at full volume again. And Mom would come back down. Because we were having too much fun.
When my kids are laughing loudly at the park, or goofing around together in the backseat, I really can't be mad. I don't want to silence them for having a good time. Loudness isn't always something to correct, sometimes it's evidence of joy. Isn't that what we want? To enjoy life so much that it spills out of us?
In tragic irony, it was Anne Frank who said: “Whoever is happy will make others happy too.”
‘Cause live in a world that is already so loud with negativity, criticism, and fear.
So let's encourage Loud Joy.
