Author Christian Baloga said “The difference between a flower and a weed, is perspective.”
This is the time of year when grassy fields are covered in yellow flowers. Dandelions grow rampant around here. When I look at my own lawn, it's seeing those weeds that tells me it’s time to mow it all back. And I know, when I do, the kids will be sad because the pretty yellow flowers will be gone. So despite my annoyance with them, I've been working on a perspective shift: seeing them not as pesky weeds but rather, through the eyes of my children: a golden carpet of flowers ready to be picked.
When things in life don’t go our way, we get to choose to either focus on the bad, OR look for the beauty.
When there is a tiny bouquet of dandelions in a mason jar on my kitchen table I see a bouquet proudly assembled with love, care and thought just for me.
I'm grateful for dandelion bouquets: for the flowers among weeds.
