"Our greatest fear should not be of failure but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter.” -Bestselling author and preacher Francis Chan
Some of how the world defines “successful” are not suitable foundations to build a life upon. Popularity, wealth, fame... they all fade. A palliative care nurse noticed common themes when her patients were questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do different. They said:
5. They wish they had let themselves be happier
4. They wish they had stayed in touch with their friends
3. They wish they had the courage to express their feelings
2. They wish they hadn’t worked so hard
1. And the most common response is they wish they’d had the courage to live a life true to themselves, not the life others expected of them.
When we chase the wrong kind of success, we might be missing what (and even ‘who’) matters. And to me, that’s terrifying.
I want to spend my life on something that will outlast it.
So find out first what matters then don’t be afraid to chase that.
Happy Monday."
