Paul Baloche, writer of Open The Eyes Of My Heart, Above All, Hosanna, Your Name
and many more, has been leading worship, recording and providing teaching
recourses for over 20 years now. Paul won’t be stopping any time soon, he says,
“Viewing ministry not as a sprint but as a marathon, a long series of obedient steps
in the same direction. A path where every aspect of life is forged in fires of passion
for Jesus and His Church, and the result is almost always an honest prayer for the
Church to sing.” As he goes on to explain, “When I’m writing worship songs, I realize
that I’m offering a vocabulary for people to sing back to God. My hope is that, as they
sing those words with melodies, it will act as a catalyst in their hearts, creating
transformation deep down in their soul.”

Brian Doerksen writer of Refiner’s Fire, Come Now Is The Time To Worship, Micah Six
Eight, Hallelujah (your Love Is Amazing) and many more. Brian released his newest
album “Grateful” this past October after what he called “a 5 year wordless season of
winter”. The song, “Scars on His Hands” came after hearing his friend and pastor,
Joyce Rees, share a message in which she talked about the scars on Jesus’ hands. It
struck Doerksen afresh that Jesus is acquainted with our grief. He writes: ‘My King is
acquainted with grief/ he won’t recoil when in sorrow I weep/ my King is
acquainted with grief.’ While the song relates to sadness, Doerksen called it his
“little green sprout” because he knew his heart was coming back again. With his new
album bringing him out of his wordless winter, Doerksen acknowledges more
seasonal changes are inevitable, “It’s springtime that acknowledges a bit of the hard
journey. I’m just a guy who writes simple songs from the heart about love, about
pain and about hope. And it starts with just saying ‘thank you.’”
